"Go in Peace": A Place to Pray, Reflect, and Learn—Together
Our Journey Together in this Space

Introduction
For nearly three decades, the National Catholic Broadcasting Council (NCBC) has carried a simple but profound mission: to bring the Church into the homes of Canadians.
That mission began in March 1998 with the first broadcast of the Daily TV Mass — a response to a real pastoral need. People across this vast country — the home-bound, those in hospitals or long-term care, prisoners, and those in remote communities — could not always gather physically with their parish.
The vision was never just to broadcast a Mass, but to ensure no one felt separated from the life of the Church.
My Story - and The Next Steps
I have had the privilege of serving as Executive Director of NCBC for the past ten years, following our founding director, Michael McManus. His conviction was clear: if people could not come to the Church, the Church must go to them. That conviction still guides everything we do.
I was ordained a Deacon in 2004. Much of my ministry has been spent walking with men and women leaving prison as they rebuild their lives. That experience taught me that this work is not ultimately about broadcasting — it is about accompaniment. It is about being present with people in their distance, transition, or quiet searching.
The Daily TV Mass remains the steady heartbeat of our ministry, connecting hundreds of thousands of Canadians each week to the Eucharist and the prayer of the Church. But our mission does not end at the final blessing.
Today we take another step.
On this Pentecost Sunday, we launch “Go in Peace” — a new free Substack publication that invites us to carry the grace of the Mass into daily life. Rooted in the Emmaus story and the sending out of the disciples by the Holy Spirit, this space is a reflective companion to the Daily TV Mass.
Here we will walk together in three simple, life-giving movements:
Pray Together — through our new Prayer Book Prayers for Every Season, monthly prayers, special feast day prayers, audio reflections, and opportunities to join a wider prayer community.
Reflect Together — through Scripture, personal faith stories, seasonal reflections, and thoughtful engagement with culture: impactful books, films seen through a Catholic lens, and gentle reflection on the issues of our day.
Learn Together — through Bible studies, theology, Saint spotlights, and Pastoral Ministry — practical formation for lay leaders, catechists, and all who serve in parishes and homes.
These are not just categories. They reflect the natural rhythm of Christian life:
We are fed at the Table,
We reflect on what we have received,
And we go forth to live and serve.
Our Pastoral Team will share their Reflections with you
What makes this possible is not one voice, but many. Across Canada, we are blessed to work with Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Religious, and Lay leaders who bring both theological depth and pastoral wisdom. Their voices — rooted in the Church and attentive to our time — will enrich this space.
This Substack is 100% free and open to all. It is a place for longer-form writing: essays and reflections you can read slowly, return to, and pray with. Each week we will offer new invitations to deepen your relationship with Christ and his Church.
At the end of every Daily TV Mass, we hear the words of dismissal:
Go in peace to glorify the Lord by your life.
This publication begins right there — in that sending. What we receive in the Eucharist is meant to be lived, reflected upon, and shared. “Go in Peace” is a small but intentional way of continuing the journey, carrying the grace of the Mass into the ordinary and extraordinary moments that follow.
If you are here — whether at home, in care, in a distant place, or quietly searching — you are part of this community.
We are grateful you have joined us.
And we invite you, with open hearts, to walk with us — to pray together, to reflect together, and to learn together.
